DURHAM – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Duke fencing team is set to travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for the 2023 ACC Fencing Championship.
SETTING THE SCENE
- The championships will be held Saturday and Sunday at Boston College's Margot Connell Recreation Center in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
- The championships begin at 8 a.m., Saturday with the women's individual round robin. The men's individual round robin starts at 2:30 p.m., Saturday. The team competition will be held Sunday, with the women kicking things off at 8 a.m., and the men opening at 12:15 p.m.
- This will be the ninth ACC Fencing Championship since fencing returned as a league-sponsored sport.
- Boston College is serving as the host for the second time – 2019, 2023.
- The 12th-ranked Duke women are 19-3 this season while the ninth-ranked men are 13-8.
- Notre Dame is the reigning champion on both the men's and women's sides.

- The men's and women's individual semifinals and finals, as well as the team championship, will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. Coverage of the women's semifinals and finals begins at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, while the men's semifinals and finals start at 7 p.m., Saturday. Team finals coverage begins at 8 a.m. (women's) and 12:15 p.m. (men's) on Sunday.
DUKE MEET SUCCESSES
- The No. 12 Duke women's fencing team posted an undefeated 5-0 record at the Duke Meet. The Blue Devils featured three top-10 victories, highlighted by a win over No. 1 Notre Dame.
- The women captured wins over the No. 1 Fighting Irish (16-11), No. 5 Northwestern (15-12), No. 9 Penn State (18-9), MIT (21-6) and Brandeis (24-3).
- The Blue Devil women have tallied seven wins over top-10 teams this season.
- The women's squad is now 19-3 this season.
A LOOK BACK AT 2022
- Six Blue Devils collected individual medals at the 2022 ACC Fencing Championship at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- Sarah Lurye brought home silver in women's epee, while Vivi Buchmann (saber), Christina Ferrari (foil), Terence Lee (saber), Rachel Kowalsky (epee) and David Tierney (foil) captured bronze medals in their respective events.
- As a team, the men finished in third while the women placed second overall.
FENCE FOR THE FIGHT
With the regular season complete, the Duke fencing team is continuing to raise money with the Fence for the Fight campaign in partnership with the Duke Cancer Institute.
With 1,152 wins so far this season in combination with pledging, the Fence for the Fight campaign has totaled $48,652.40.
Elizabeth Beguinet, Director of Administration and Recruiting for the Duke fencing program, passed away December 17 after a long fight with breast cancer.
