DURHAM- Duke rowing head coach
Megan Cooke Carcagno has announced seniors
Megan Lee,
Lauren Sizemore and
Caeley Tierney as team captains for the 2023 campaign.
Â
Lee and Sizemore both served as captains last season, while Tierney is named captain for the first time in her career.
Â
Lee, a native of Natick, Mass., enters her senior season after an outstanding 2022 campaign, earning first-team All-ACC honors and competing in seven regattas. Lee was a key member of last season's Varsity 8 lineup that claimed bronze in the V8 Grand Final at the ACC Championship and fourth in the C Final at the NCAA Championships. In 2021, Lee was named a Pocock/CRCA first-team All-American, becoming just the fourth Blue Devil in program history to earn the recognition.
Â
Sizemore is coming off her second appearance at the NCAA Championships, joining Lee in the V8 boat that placed fourth in the C Final race with a time of 6:35.023. The same crew received ACC Crew of the Week honors last season, after sweeping three races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite. Sizemore, a product of Cincinnati, Ohio, has competed in 12 regattas in three seasons and was named a 2021 CRCA Scholar-Athlete.
Â
Tierney, hailing from Hackettstown, N.J., played a major role in the Varsity 4 lineup throughout the 2022 season. Tierney was part of the V4 boat that earned a second-place finish in the Grand Final at the ACC Championship and a third-place finish in the C Final of the NCAA Championships with a time of 6:42.825. Tierney has competed in 16 regattas over the last three seasons and earned a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll twice.
Â
The Blue Devils open the 2023 season on March 4th, hosting Virginia in a scrimmage on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C.
