DURHAM – The Duke fencing program opens the 2023-24 campaign ranked on both the men's and women's side, as announced in the preseason poll by the United States Fencing Coaches' Association (USFCA).
Both the men and women check in at ninth nationally. The 2023 reigning NCAA Champion Notre Dame men took the top spot in the men's poll while Princeton is first on the women's side. No. 2 Columbia and No. 3 Princeton round out the men's top three while No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Columbia make up the women's.
The Blue Devils are coming off a successful 2022-23 season and looks to carry that momentum with them.
Head coach
Omar Elgeziry is in his first year with the Blue Devils and will look to a quartet of elected captains –
Christina Ferrari, Xavier Ghazaleh, Stephen Kim and
Sarah Lurye – to lead Duke this season. Duke returns six of last year's eight NCAA qualifiers.
Duke kicks off the 2023-24 season this weekend at the Temple Open in Philadelphia, Pa.
