DURHAM – The Duke fencing team is set to make a trip to the state of Pennsylvania for the second consecutive weekend to compete at the Philadelphia Invitational.
SETTING THE STAGE
The seventh-ranked Duke men are set to compete against No. 2 Johns Hopkins (DII), Lafayette, NJIT, No. 10 NYU and No. 8 Penn.
The 10th-ranked Blue Devil women will fence off with No. 2 Johns Hopkins (DII), Lafayette, NJIT, No. 1 NYU (DII) and No. 8 Penn.
Saturday marks the second consecutive weekend Duke will compete against Penn.
LAST TIME OUT
The Duke fencing team opened its 2023 slate over the weekend with six team victories at the Penn State Duals.
The 10th-ranked women captured four victories against No. 8 Penn (14-13), No. 11 Temple (17-10), No. 12 Yale (16-11) and Haverford (26-1).
The seventh-ranked men defeated No. 11 Yale (14-13) and Haverford (19-8).
Rookie Kunling Tong(saber) led the entire team with 15 victories, followed by senior captain Zsofia Walter(saber) and freshman foilist Rachel Koowith 13 and 14, respectively.
Tong was named ACC Fencer of the Week following her performance over the weekend.
Saberist Stephen Kimheadlined the men's contingent with 10 wins. David Tierney (foil) and Lukas Dannull (saber) added nine wins in their respective weapons.
