DURHAM – Coming off a top-10 victory against Louisville last Saturday, the Duke men's soccer team has been ranked No. 5 in the country by United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced on Tuesday evening. The Blue Devils (4-0-0, 1-0-0) move up two spots after their 2-1 road victory against the then-No. 10 Cardinals on Sept. 10.
The ranking is the highest for Duke this season, and its highest landing spot in the poll since being tabbed as No. 3 in the country last October.
The Blue Devils started ACC play last Saturday against Louisville in their first road game of the 2022 season. The Cardinals scored the first goal of the contest in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Duke responded following the break, with
Jai Bean scoring a goal of the season in his first game of the year followed by
Shakur Mohammed firing home his third goal of the year in the 82nd minute to put the Blue Devils in the lead. Goalkeeper
Eliot Hamill made a season-high seven saves after allowing his first goal of 2022 to help secure the victory.
Mohammed earned
ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts, along with being named the PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week and to both TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
No. 5 Duke is back in action on Friday evening when it hosts North Carolina (3-2-0, 0-1-0) at Koskinen Stadium for the Blue Devils' ACC home-opener. First touch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
