ATHENS, Ga. – The preseason second-ranked Duke women's soccer team took the field on Monday evening at Georgia for its first exhibition action of the 2022 campaign. The Blue Devils dropped a 2-1 decision, as 21 Duke student-athletes saw action for approximately 45 minutes at UGA Soccer Stadium at Turner Soccer Complex.
The two squads played three 30-minute periods following a 15-minute delay due to inclement weather.

Carina Lageyre are representing the United States at the U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica. Duke will close exhibition action on Friday, Aug. 12 as the Blue Devils host 12th-ranked South Carolina at Koskinen Stadium with a 6 p.m., start.
First Period
The Blue Devils collected four shots in the opening 30 minutes with graduate student
Mackenzie Pluck leading the way with two attempts. In the ninth minute, freshmen
Elle Piper and
Kat Rader set Pluck up on the left side of the box and her attempt went high.
Shortly after Rader had a header towards the back post and Pluck featured a close-range attempt that were both saved by Bulldog keeper Liz Beardsley. Piper added a long attempt later in the period that was saved.
Second Period
In the second 30-minute period, the Blue Devil starters played the first 15 minutes before bringing in an entire new group.
Georgia was able to get on the board with two goals in a span of less than three minutes off a corner kick and penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the period. The Bulldogs received goals from Ellie Gilbert and Abby Boyan. Duke registered five shots in the period off the feet of

Grace Watkins.
Third Period
Duke's
Julia Burnell,
Delaney Graham and
Julia Hannon added shots in the third, before Pluck made a great run into the box and sent a shot off the left post with nearly 12 minutes remaining.
In the 82nd minute, Pluck used her right foot to find the near post and put the Blue Devils on the board off an assist from Burnell.
Sarah Piper had a chance to equalize on a header attempt late that went wide.
