DURHAM – The 2022 Duke field hockey season is just around the corner. The Blue Devils capped their fourth day of preseason training and get their first taste of competition on the new state-of-the-art turf with an exhibition against VCU Sunday, Aug. 14.
Duke hosts the Rams Sunday for a 5 p.m., scrimmage. The game is free and open to the public on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The Blue Devils also host North Carolina for a second exhibition, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
Welcome to the Newcomers
Duke welcomes nine first-time Blue Devils to the program for the 2022 campaign. Six of the nine are freshmen, while the other three come in from other teams and will be donning Duke Blue for the first time in their careers.
Raphaella van de Walle is the veteran of the group as a graduate student transfer from Universiteit Maastricht in The Netherlands. Charlotte van Oirschot arrived in Durham in January after two seasons at ACC foe Louisville and Kira Curland joined the Blue Devil family after one season at Indiana.
Paige Bitting, Reagan Ciabattoni, Brynn Crouse, Alaina McVeigh, Abby Spear and Macy Szukics are the six rookies who are excited to make their collegiate debuts.
Blue Devils Go Right to Work
The Blue Devils returned to campus and hit the ground running with fitness testing to officially christen the new state-of-the-art Tokyo GT turf. With that in the rearview mirror, Duke got down to business with hockey with two sessions per day leading up to the scrimmage.
We are off and running... literally!

Preseason Projections
With the Division I field hockey kicking off Aug. 26, all of the preseason projections will start to roll out in the next two weeks. The ACC is set to release its preseason All-ACC team and projected order of finish Aug. 22 and the NFHCA announces its preseason top-25 Aug. 23.
A Familiar Face Returns
There will be a familiar face on the Blue Devil sidelines this season as Jess Jecko joined the Duke coaching staff as an assistant coach. Jecko spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach in 2020-21 and comes back to Durham after one season at Dartmouth. She fills in a hole left by the transition of Wesley Boersma to the Player Development Analyst & Director of Team Operations role.
13 Days and Counting
The Blue Devils are 13 days away from the official start to the 2022 campaign. Duke opens the season with four road contests, starting with Rutgers Aug. 27. The Blue Devils also play Saint Joseph’s in Piscataway before heading to the ACC Big Ten Cup at Boston College. Duke takes on Northwestern and Maryland on Labor Day Weekend.
