DURHAM – Following a historic 2022 campaign, four Duke softball players have been tabbed to D1Softball's top-150 player rankings.
Leading the way for Duke was graduate student
Jameson Kavel, who checked in at No. 43. Fellow All-American
Peyton St. George and
Kristina Foreman were right behind her, ranking No. 54 and No. 57, respectively. Sophomore
Jala Wright rounded out the lineup with her first such honor, by being placed at No. 125 in the nation.
Kavel adds another honor to her growing list of achievements, after finishing the season as an NFCA All-American for the first time. The third team honoree had a record-breaking year in 2022, hitting .379 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 16 doubles. The Duluth, Ga., native was also a top-25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and earned All-ACC First Team and All-Southeast Region second team honors.
St. George polishes off her collegiate career with another recognition, following a stellar tenure in Durham. The Mechanicsville, Va., native was named an All-American for the first time, going 22-4 with a 2.07 ERA (155.2 IP) and striking out 190 batters. An All-ACC and All-Southeast Region first team honoree, St. George leaves Duke as the program's most decorated pitcher, holding Duke's all-time records in starts, appearances, innings pitched, wins, saves, strikeouts, shutouts and complete games.
Foreman checks in right behind St. George after having a career-year of her own. The Tampa, Fla., native took home All-Southeast Region and All-ACC honors for the first time, hitting .398 with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and slugging .797 over 48 games. Foreman played some of her best softball down the stretch, making the ACC's All-Tournament Team, before driving in nine runs during the NCAA Regional. Her five RBIs in the clinching win over Georgia proved critical and set a new Duke NCAA Championship single-game record.
Wright had a breakout season in her first year in Durham, going 13-5 with a 2.09 ERA (107.0 IP) and 115 strikeouts in the circle. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Wright found a niche in the big moment, including earning a start in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional against UCLA and throwing three hitless innings of relief in the NCAA Regional clinching win over Georgia. The sophomore also joined an exclusive list of Blue Devils to throw a no-hitter, after a five-inning lockdown performance over Army on Feb. 24.
