DURHAM - Twelve members of the Duke rowing team were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Friday.Â
Grace Butero and Amelia Shunk garnered Scholar-Athlete recognition for the third time in their careers to highlight this year's recipients.Â
Those earning their second career CRCA honors included Rivca Chaver, Sydney Johnson, Megan Lee and Gabriella Salvati.
Six Blue Devils were recognized for the first time in their career - Allison Carr, Ella Harris, Erin Heyeck, Brenna Morley, Ithika Senthilnathan and Shae Simpson.Â
To meet the criteria for CRCA Scholar-Athlete status, student-athletes must be in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, rowed in 75 percent of the team's spring races in an NCAA eligible boat, and maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
The Blue Devils have had at least three student-athletes recognized for academic success by the CRCA in each of the last 14 seasons. This season marks the ninth time since 2008 that five or more student-athletes earned the award. Duke is one of seven ACC programs with 10 or more selections this year, joining Syracuse (13), Louisville (12), Miami (12), Notre Dame (12), Virginia (12) and Boston College (10).Â
