DURHAM – A trio of Duke field hockey athletes are set to represent the United States in a pair of different events this month. Senior forward
Hannah Miller was selected to the United States U-21 Women's National Team for the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament June 19-26, while former Blue Devils
Leah Crouse and
Jillian Wolgemuth will suit up for the Women's National Team in the third season of the FIH Hockey Pro League.
Miller represents the Blue Devils on the 20-athlete roster selected by U-21 head coach Tracey Paul. This marks the U-21 squad's first competition following the FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup earlier this spring. The United States will face India, Ireland, Netherlands and Ukraine in a round-robin style event at The Hockey Center.
"I'm super excited by the selected group and look forward to seeing the hockey they can produce in a short space of time," said Tracey Paul, U-21 USWNT Head Coach. "Lauren Wadas will captain the team which returns both goalkeepers and five field players from the Junior World Cup squad."
The No. 15 U.S. Women's National Team will finish up the third season of the FIH Hockey Pro League with eight games in Europe when they take on No. 7 Spain, No. 13 China, No. 6 India and No. 8 Belgium. The matches will be played in Antwerp, Belgium and Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Crouse returns from the previous matchup against England earlier in the spring and Wolgemuth has been a regular with the squad in previous FIH Hockey Pro League matches. The team will play a total of eight games, facing Spain, China, India and Belgium twice over the course of two weeks.
A three-year starter for the Blue Devils attack, Miller has been a dynamic part of Duke's offense throughout her career. In 54 career games, the native of Malvern, Pa., has 18 goals and eight assists for 44 points. She currently ranks 48th in Duke history in points and is six points away from becoming the 42nd Blue Devil in program history to score 50 points in a career.
Miller has been a mainstay in the U.S. Women's National Team system as a member of both the U-19 and U-17 squads during her career. She joined the U-19 team for a Germany Tour in the spring before her rookie season at Duke and was the captain of the U-17 squad during a tour in Uruguay.
Crouse, a standout midfielder during her time with the Blue Devils, finished her career with 18 goals and 16 assists for 52 points. She was a 2019 All-ACC second-team pick and garnered NFHCA All-Region second-team honors this past season. Crouse ranks 39th in program history in career points as one of 41 Blue Devils to reach the 50-point mark. She excels in the classroom as well, garnering numerous academic awards during her career.
Wolgemuth played in 78 games with 72 starts on the backline for the Blue Devils from 2016-19. She scored three goals and added five assists for her career, earning NFHCA All-America third team honors as a senior. A two-time All-South Region selection, Wolgemuth was named to the All-ACC team in 2018 and 2019 and captained the squad in 2019.
The U.S. U-19 squad opens action June 19 at 7 a.m. (ET) against a tough Netherlands team. The red, white and blue take on Ukraine the following day before getting a two-day break. The United States wraps up action against India and Ireland, June 23 and 25, respectively.
All matches are open to the public for viewing and more information on ticketing will be made available soon. The Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament will run alongside a senior international women's series between Ireland and Japan.
