DURHAM – Duke fencers
Christina Ferrari and
Terence Lee have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) 2022 Academic All-District® III Men's and Women's At-Large Teams.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Honorees selected First-Team Academic All-District® will advance to the Academic All-America® ballot and honorees for Division I will be announced mid-June.
Ferrari and Lee earn the honor for the first time in their careers.
Lee was named ACC Fencer of the Year for saber for the first time in his career after collecting his first All-America accolade at the NCAA Championships. He posted the second-best finish in Duke men's program history at the NCAA Fencing Championship in March, just behind 1996 national champion Jeremy Kahn. Lee helped the men's saber squad finish 14-3 overall and played to a 26-13 individual regular season record. In addition to his performance at NCAAs, he garnered bronze during the individual portion of the ACC Championship and placed seventh at the regional meet.
Ferrari is the lone sophomore on the District III ballot. She qualified for the NCAA Championship for the second time in her young career and collected her second All-America honor with an 11th-place finish in women's foil. She captured bronze during the individual portion of the ACC Championship and placed fourth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. She played to an impressive 37-9 regular-season ledger and helped the women's foil squad to a 14-5 season record.
