DURHAM β Duke field hockey head coach
Pam Bustin has announced the transition of
Wesley Ann Boersma from assistant coach to the Player Development Analyst and Director of Team Travel Operations. Boersma is entering her seventh season with the Blue Devils.
"I am thrilled to announce that
Wesley Boersma remains on the Duke field hockey staff as our new Player Development Data Analysist and Director of Team Travel Operations," said Bustin. "She fulfills the role vacated by
Karlie Paschall who is now working with Atlanta United in Major League Soccer."
Boersma joined the Blue Devils in August 2016 from the Netherlands where she was competing for Victoria Hockey Club in Rotterdam. Upon arrival in Durham, the Virginia Beach, Va., native helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2016 ACC regular season title and to the NCAA quarterfinals.
With Boersma's dedication to helping each player improve their skills every day, the Blue Devils continued to find success, winning 17 and 16 games, respectively, over the next two seasons. During that time, Boersma was instrumental in mentoring a trio of All-Americans in 2017.
"Wesley's passions for player improvement and training technology will come together in this role," Bustin said. "Her genuine desire to know and understand each student-athlete's performance needs will provide important insights to our overall periodization blocks and to our daily training plans."
The Blue Devils utilize Catapult wearable technology to track key analytics in terms of performance. Boersma will be in charge of watching and analyzing the objective data provided by Catapult to help the coaching staff design practices as well as keep them informed when making crucial performance decisions.
In addition to serving as an assistant coach for the previous six seasons, Boersma also handled all away travel for the Blue Devils. She will continue this instrumental role, which allows the Blue Devils to only be concerned with the task at hand on the field at all times.
"Her years of experience in designing our away trips and tournament routines will not be lost as she will continue to plan our travel to best accommodate our student-athlete's schedules and overall well-being," Bustin said. "I am so happy to continue to have Wesley as part of my Duke day!"
A 2010 graduate of William & Mary, Boersma was a two-time captain for the Tribe on the turf. She graduated tied for third in program history in career assists (19) and was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) second team All-South Region honoree as a senior in 2009. The Virginia Beach, Va., native was also selected for the 2009 Div. I Senior All-Star Game and was a two-time VaSID all-state selection in 2008 and 2009.
Boersma received bachelor's degrees in kinesiology and psychology before earning a master's degree in education and pedagogical sciences from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2015.Β
Formerly Wesley Drew, Boersma resides in Durham with her husband, Ralph and their newborn son Beck Lennart Boersma. Ralph is also an assistant coach on the Blue Devil staff.
