DURHAM – Ninth-ranked Duke outscored No. 18 North Carolina 13-4 in the second half to come away with a 19-11 victory in ACC men's lacrosse action Sunday evening at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils had three players with hat tricks and 11 different goal scorers overall in the victory.
Duke improves to 11-5 overall and 3-2 against ACC foes, while North Carolina falls to 8-6 and 1-5 in league action.
Duke junior attackman
Dyson Williams finished his evening with three goals to become the 50th player to record 100 career points. He stands at 102 points from 88 goals and 14 assists.
Joe Robertson had two goals and three assists for five points, while
Brennan O'Neill had one goal and four assists.
Nakeie Montgomery had a strong showing with three goals and an assist, while rookie
Andrew McAdorey rounded out the hat trick scorers with three tallies.
Sean Lulley tacked on two goals and an assist – his best ACC performance of the season.
Defensively, Duke was outstanding in the second half. After giving up five goals in the first quarter, the Blue Devils held the Tar Heels to just six goals over the next 45 minutes, including holding them scoreless for a stretch of 21:25 spanning the second and third quarters.
Junior
Tyler Carpenter was outstanding yet again off the ground with a career-high eight ground balls and a caused turnover. Fellow close defensemen

Stephenson and
Kenny Brower both had three ground balls. Brower also forced a pair of turnovers.
Offensively, the Blue Devils got eight goals from six different players in the third quarter. Duke notched four in the opening 4:19 of the period and never looked back en route to a 14-7 advantage.
North Carolina attackman
Chris Gray led all scorers on the field with three goals and three assists to become the NCAA all-time points leader with 401 career points. He surpassed Lyle Thompson's 400 points.
The first half was filled with back-and-forth action as North Carolina took a 7-6 lead into the locker room. The first quarter featured nine goals, with the Tar Heels having a 5-4 edge. The opening 15 minutes had four ties and two lead changes with neither team leading by more than a goal.
Duke's second and third goals were man-down scores as the Blue Devils killed off a one-minute penalty. O'Neill had the first and
Jake Naso tacked on one 11 seconds later off the faceoff.
With the game knotted at five apiece with 11:44 left in the second quarter, both teams went on a scoring drought. North Carolina ended the eight-minute dry spell with two goals in eight seconds for a 7-5 lead.
Duke ended its scoreless stretch at 10:32 when Robertson found Williams for the goal with 1:12 on the clock to make it 7-6 heading into the locker room.
The Blue Devils carried the momentum and dominated the third quarter to build a seven-goal lead. Duke's 8-0 third period was the most lopsided quarter for the Blue Devils this season. In the third stanza, Duke outshot North Carolina 14-8, won the ground ball battle 13-5 and went 7-of-9 at the faceoff dot.
Naso went 20-of-33 at the faceoff X with eight ground balls and a goal, while
Mike Adler made 11 saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
Andrew Bonafede came in off the bench to make one save in the final 2:21.
Duke closes out the regular season Saturday, May 7 at Notre Dame. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m., on ACC Network.
