DURHAM - Junior saberist Terence Lee was tabbed ACC Fencer of the Year in men's saber, as announced by the conference office Thursday.Â
Lee garnered the award for the first time in his career after collecting his first All-America accolade at the national meet.Â
Lee posted the second-best finish in Duke men's program history at the NCAA Fencing Championship in March, just behind 1996 national champion Jeremy Kahn.
Lee entered the final day of competition in fourth overall and secured a spot in the semifinal bout as the fourth seed. The Hong Kong native faced off against top-seeded Fares Ferjani of St. John's and battled to a 15-14 victory to send him to the championship bout. A majority of the bout was back-and-forth with four ties, but ultimately second-seeded Filip Dolegiewicz of Harvard captured a 15-10 win to crown him the champion.Â
Lee helped the men's saber squad finish 14-3 overall and played to a 26-13 individual regular season record. In addition to his performance at NCAAs, he garnered bronze during the individual portion of the ACC Championship and placed seventh at the regional meet.Â
