2V8 Sweep Highlights Big Ten/ACC Double Dual

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Duke Second Varsity Eight earned first place in each of its two races to highlight the No. 12 Blue Devils' performance at the Big Ten/ACC Double Dual on Saturday at Griggs Reservoir.

The 2V8 started its day by outracing No. 9 Ohio State by 2.6 seconds (7:00.6 to 7:03.2) in the morning session before pulling away from No. 4 Michigan by 7.9 ticks in the afternoon slate. The veteran-led lineup included eight members of the 2V8 crew that swept its three races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite two weeks ago.

"Today was a good step for the program, and I think everyone came away with confidence yet a desire to find more speed," said head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno. "I'm impressed by the strong racing we showed against two top-tier teams, who are both no stranger to the A Final of NCAA rowing. We have work to do to hit our goals, but we have every indication we're on a good path. We thank Ohio State for being such excellent hosts."

Duke notched its second of three total wins in the Third Varsity Eight afternoon race, as the Blue Devils pushed past Michigan, 7:22.1 to 7:25.0.

The Blue Devils were edged out narrowly in multiple races, including the Varsity Eight trailing Ohio State by 0.8 seconds in its morning event. The Varsity Four broke the eight-minute mark in both of its races, but came up short by less than six seconds in each.

Duke will face more competition from the Big Ten when it travels to Sarasota, Fla., for the Big Ten Invite April 15-16.
