Second Varsity Eight Earns ACC Crew of the Week

DURHAM – The Duke Second Varsity Eight boat has been named the ACC Crew of the Week after winning two races at the Big Ten Invite in Sarasota, Fla.
The 2V8 kicked off the weekend by outracing Iowa, Notre Dame and Minnesota on Friday morning with a time of 6:40.731 at Nathan Benderson Park. In the afternoon session, the Blue Devils finished behind only No. 2 Stanford, clocking a time of 6:44.527.
Duke wrapped the regatta by beating a pair of ranked opponents in No. 18 Tennessee and No. 20 Indiana on Sunday morning. The Blue Devils recorded a time of 6:31.821, narrowly edging out the Hoosiers' 6:32.854.
The 2V8 was once again guided by a veteran lineup that included senior coxswain Sarah Royka, junior Rivca Chaver, senior McKendree Densel, senior Grace Butero, junior Morgan Linsley, junior Emilie Lijesen, graduate student Olivia Hunt, graduate student Allison Carr and senior Gabriella Salvati.
The boat has captured first place in eight out of nine races to start the spring season. Wednesday's honor marks the 2V8's second ACC Crew of the Week recognition of the 2022 campaign, and the fourth overall for Duke.
The Blue Devils are set to co-host the Lake Wheeler Invitational with North Carolina this weekend at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C. Fourteen teams will join Duke and UNC at the regatta, which begins Friday, April 22 and concludes Saturday, April 23. The Blue Devils aim to finish first in the team standings for the third consecutive season at the event.
