DURHAM – Duke close defenseman
Kenny Brower was named to the USILA Team of the Week following his outstanding effort in the Blue Devils' win over No. 6 Virginia last week.
Brower helped anchor the defense that held the Cavaliers to only eight goals in a 17-8 triumph for the No. 13 Blue Devils. Matching up with the nation's fifth-leading scorer in Connor Shellenberger, Brower was instrumental in holding the Cavaliers' top scorer to just two assists.
Shellenberger's two assists were the fewest points scored by the sophomore attackman and marked the first time this season he was held without a goal. It was just the second time in his career he was unable to find the cage, were tied for the fewest he had all season. It also was the first time this season Virginia did not reach double digits in a game.
Regularly charged with covering the opponent's top attackman, Brower ranks third on the team in caused turnovers (13) and third among non-faceoff specialists in ground balls (34). Brower has started every game of his career and has 29 caused turnovers and 74 career ground balls. Duke's scoring defense ranks second in the ACC at 10.87 goals against per game.
The 11th-ranked Blue Devils have the weekend off before returning to Koskinen Stadium to host No. 15 North Carolina. Faceoff is 5:30 p.m., on ACC Network.
