DURHAM – Following a big weekend, seniors
Maddie Jenner and
Maddie Johnston have collected numerous awards to start the week.
Jenner was named the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week and USA Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week following her game-winning performance. Johnston was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week and tabbed ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her career day.
Jenner notched the game-winning goal with 1:21 left in the fourth quarter to push No. 7 Duke past No. 2 Boston College, 16-15. The senior attacker finished with two goals in the matchup and 12 draw controls.
Johnston helped spearhead a tough Blue Devil defense to push them past the Eagles. Johnston had a career-high five ground balls and a tied her career-high with three caused turnovers.
With Saturday's victory, the Blue Devils won their ninth game in a row and improve to 15-1, 6-1 ACC. Duke's No. 5 ranking is the best since 2016 and is tabbed No. 4 in the NIKE/USA Lacrosse poll.
The Blue Devils have another big test this week at No. 1 North Carolina Thursday. Opening draw is set for 8 p.m., on ACCN with Leah Secondo, Sheehan Stanwick Burch & Dana Boyle on the call. The winner will be crowned ACC regular season champs.
