DURHAM – The Duke field hockey team held its annual end-of-the-year banquet this past weekend, recognizing individual award winners and celebrating another Duke True field hockey campaign.
The Blue Devil coaching staff and student-athletes recognized all the various accomplishments over the course of the 2021 campaign and honored the team's seniors. A quartet of Blue Devils was selected for the program's annual awards.
Taking home the Katie Grant Attack Player of the Year honor was
Hannah Miller. On the other end of the field, it was
Eva Nunnink earning the Caitlyn Williams Defensive Player of the Year award, while
Lily Posternak was selected as the Laura Suchoski Midfielder of the Year. A leader on and off the field,
Charlotte Johnson was the recipient of the Stef Fee Duke True Award.
An attacker, Miller was one of Duke's fiercest competitors on the offensive end of the field. A true playmaker on the field and especially on the wing, the native of Malvern, Pa., finished the fall with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Miller is a three-year starter for the Blue Devils and owns 18 goals and 44 points overall for her career.
The
Katie Grant Attack Player of the Year award is named for the 2005 ACC Player of the Year, who tallied 83 career goals and 63 career assists and guided the Blue Devils to a 70-23 (.753) overall record during her career. A native of Lehighton, Pa., Grant etched her name into the Duke record books in a number of categories including career points (1st, 223), career goals (2nd, 80), career assists (T-1st, 63)
and ranks fourth on the all-time ACC list for career points.
A second-year member of the Blue Devil program, Nunnink was one of Duke's most steady forces on the turf throughout the season. A starter in every game, the Eindhoven, Netherlands native was instrumental both offensively and defensively. Nunnink provided an anchor in the middle of the field for the Blue Devils and was a major threat on offensive penalty corners, finishing the season with two goals and four assists for eight points. She was named to the All-ACC and NFHCA All-South Region second team for her efforts. The all-region honor was the second consecutive. Nunnink started all 29 games during her career, posting five goals and six assists, while serving as an anchor on defense.
The
Caitlin Williams award is named after the 2008 Duke graduate who played in 50 career games for the Blue Devils, tallying 238 career saves and a 1.53 goals against average. With her impressive stat line, Williams (Dallmeyer) ranks fifth on Duke's all-time list in goals against average, tied for seventh in career saves and 13th in career save percentage (.735). A native of Greenland, N.H., Williams garnered second team All-America, first team All-ACC and back-to-back All-South Region honors during her time at Duke.
Posternak, a starter in all 17 games in 2022, was the engine to Duke's offense this past season. A playmaker in the middle of the field, Posternak finished the season with a goal and three assists for five points. Posternak started 70 of her 97 career games played, registering seven goals and 14 assists for 28 points.
The
Laura Suchoski Midfielder of the Year award is named after the four-time All-America selection, who tallied 86 appearances on the field during her time at Duke, registering 16 career goals and 30 career assists. A 2009 graduate, Suchoski (Tierney) was a three-time All-ACC selection and the first Blue Devil in program history to garner All-America honors during her freshman campaign.
Johnson, a backup goaltender for the Blue Devils, is a selfless leader on and off the field for the Blue Devils. The Bridgehampton, N.Y., native brings a positive energy and excellent work ethic to the field every day. She played in one game in 2021.
A 2012 graduate,
Stefanie Fee was a four-time letterwinner and standout defender for the Blue Devils. She started each of the 81 games during her career, garnering Longstreth/NFHCA All-America, All-South Region first team, All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament accolades. During her senior campaign, Fee anchored a defensive unit which ranked second in the ACC and eighth nationally in goals against average (1.2). Since graduating, she has gone on to excel as a member of the U.S. national team.
The Blue Devils finished the 2021 campaign with a 6-11 overall record. Duke was able to take part in its first complete spring season since 2019 and will return to the turf in August.
