Carner Tabbed to Tewaaraton Watch List

DURHAM – The Tewaaraton Foundation announced additions to the 2022 Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists and Duke junior Olivia Carner was among the seven new honorees, the foundation announced Friday.
Carner joins Catriona Barry, Katie DeSimone and Maddie Jenner who were named to the list earlier this spring.
Carner has taken huge strides this season both offensively and defensively. She is third on the team with 43 points from 24 goals and 19 assists and is shooting .533 percent. Defensively, she is second on the squad with an impressive 21 caused turnovers and also has 14 draw controls and 12 ground balls. Against Pittsburgh and Penn, Carner was stellar for Duke on both sides of the field. She tallied a career-high six points (3G, 3A) and a career-high four caused turnovers. She followed that performance with three goals against Penn. She has registered a hat trick in 10 of Duke's 13 contests this season.
The initial lists that were announced February 10 included the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse to highlight the early contenders for this year's Tewaaraton Award. On April 21, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced in early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipients will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season.
Duke welcomes No. 16 Virginia to Koskinen Stadium Saturday for a 1 p.m., contest on ACCNX.
