How did you get started in rowing?
CZ: My best friend lives up the street from the boathouse and got a flyer on her door the summer before freshman year for a 'Learn to row' camp and she asked me if I wanted to try it out with her, even though we were both almost certain we were going to play basketball through high school. It turned out we immediately fell in love with rowing and joined ASAP. Best decision ever to be honest.
Why did you choose to row for Duke?
CZ: I chose to row for Duke because of the type of people on the team and the environment that this team creates. I wanted a school that was competitive academically and athletically, but also where they seemed happy. Duke rowing exuded happiness like a good team should, and on top of that they're super competitive so it was a no-brainer.
What stuck out to you about the team that made the decision to attend Duke feel right?
CZ: The team knew how to balance being competitive and having fun while also achieving great things academically. A lot of places it's hard to find that balance, but the culture at Duke sets that up for people.
