Darcy Bourne Excelling with Surbiton
The 2021 ACC Field Hockey Freshman of the Year
Darcy Bourne is having an incredibly successful season with the Surbiton Hockey Club in England. The Esher, England native most recently recorded a brace to help Surbiton move one step closer to lifting the Vitality Women's Premier Division title with a 3-0 win over Clifton Robinsons. The victory moved Surbiton seven points clear of its closest opponent at the top of the table.
The brace came on the heels of a red-hot streak by Bourne over the previous three weeks. She recorded consecutive hat tricks for Surbiton and then added four goals in a 7-1 victory as the club extended its unbeaten streak to 16 matches.
Bourne spent this past fall back home in England training with the U21 National Team in hopes of being selected to participate in the Junior Women's World Cup in South Africa. She earned an official spot on England's U21 roster in November, but the Junior Women's World Cup, scheduled for December of 2021, was postponed due to COVID-19. She recently earned an invitation to train with the Great Britain Women's Field Hockey team as the squad begins training for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Bourne was one of eight new players selected to participate.
Bourne also continues to be active in the community, giving back to the sport through inspiring young hockey players both through her excellence on the field and her social and community activism off of it.
