SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Through three rounds of pool play during the opening day of the 2022 NCAA Fencing Championship, the Duke fencing team currently sits in 12th place in the team standings with 17 points.Â
Notre Dame holds first place with 65 points, followed by Princeton (58), Columbia (55), Ohio State (50) and Harvard (48) to round out the top five.Â
The women's squad kicked off the championship as four Blue Devils competed in their respective events. Sophomore Christina Ferrari and freshman Catherine Flanagan represent the foil contingent while senior Alex Gorman and junior Anneke Zegers compete for saber.Â
Ferrari headlined Thursday's performances and stands in 12th place with eight victories. Gorman sits in 19th, followed by Flanagan (23rd) and Zegers (24th).
The Blue Devil women will compete in their final eight bouts in pool play in their respective weapons Friday and will attempt to move up the leaderboard with their focus on a top-four spot. The four fencers in each weapon with the best marks will advance to the semifinals of a single-elimination bracket of 15-touch bouts.
The semifinal and championship bouts will be aired on ESPN3 and WatchESPN beginning at 1:30 p.m.
