DURHAM – Duke sophomore
Brennan O'Neill has been named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week following his nine-point outing against Towson Saturday afternoon in Washington D.C.
This is O'Neill's second weekly honor this season. He also was the ACC Offensive Player of the Week following the opening weekend.
In a 14-7 win against Towson Saturday, O'Neill scored six goals and provided three assists for a career-high nine points. The six goals matched his career-best goal scoring performance.
With Duke trailing 4-2 after the first half, O'Neill ignited a 7-0 Blue Devils run to start the third period. The native of Bay Shore, N.Y., scored 16 seconds into the third quarter as Duke ran off seven goals in just over seven minutes. O'Neill was responsible for two goals and three assists in the spurt.
O'Neill's stellar shooting continued in the fourth quarter when he registered the first three goals in the first three minutes of the stanza to put the game out of the Tigers' reach.
In 11 games this season, O'Neill has 32 goals and 10 assists for 42 points. He has 97 career points in 28 games and is three shy of becoming the 49th Blue Devil to reach the benchmark.
Duke, ranked 10th in the latest coaches poll, opens ACC play this weekend at Syracuse. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m., on ESPNU.
