DURHAM – Former Duke field hockey All-American Rose Tynan has been selected to the New Zealand National Team. Tynan is making her debut with the New Zealand National Team as it prepares for a trio of international events in the upcoming year.
New Zealand women's head coach Graham Shaw and the 2022 Vantage Black Sticks are looking forward to an exciting year ahead with the World Cup in July as well as the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in August and the Trans-Tasman competition.
Tynan, a native of Auckland, is one of four first-time selections to the team and one of 24 individuals on the national team.
A two-time NFHCA All-American, Tynan graduated from Duke ranked ninth all-time in career goals (43) and tied for 10th in career points (101). She played in 79 career games with 43 starting assignments and earned All-ACC recognition as a junior and senior. Tynan scored 31 goals her final two seasons en route to earning All-Region and All-America honors. Overall, Tynan helped Duke advance to four consecutive NCAA quarterfinals and to the 2015 NCAA Semifinals.
New Zealand has a short and busy three-month build-up to the World Cup in July before regrouping for the Commonwealth Games in August and Shaw believes that preparation will be key.
"It's important we hit the ground running as a squad in order to prepare as well as possible in difficult circumstances. We'll focus on our daily training environment, the standards we bring to training as well as the other things we can control within the team to prepare ourselves for an exciting few months ahead.
"We're excited with this new squad and the qualities they can all bring. Some players have been selected for the first time, which is very exciting for them and their families, and I know they'll be determined to make their mark."
