DURHAM – Former Duke track & field and cross country standout
Juliet Bottorff has been named as one of nine prominent men and women to be elected to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022, as announced by the Delaware Sports Museum & Hall of Fame Wednesday afternoon.
Bottorff joins Katelyn Falgowski, Dave Frederick, Joe Holloway, Bob King, Khadijah Rushdan, Bob Shillinglaw, Devon Still and Gene Thompson in the star-studded class. The nine standouts, who represent the sports of football, basketball, track & field, field hockey, lacrosse, and harness racing, as well as sports writing, will be honored at the state's premier sports banquet on Thursday, May 12, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.
A native of Newark, Del., Bottorff was the NCAA 10,000-meter champion at Duke University, where she was a nine-time All-American. She won the 2011 NCAA collegiate outdoor championship in the 10,000-meter run in just her third race at the distance. It was one of six times that she was first-team All-American in individual events – twice each in the 10,000m, indoor 5,000m and cross country.
Bottorff was a four-time All-ACC and All-Southeast Region honoree in cross country, as well as an ACC champion and first-team All-American in the indoor 5,000 meters in 2013 and 2014. Outdoors, she was a two-time All-East selection in the 3,000 meters (2011 and 2012). She also set the ACC record in the indoor 5,000 in 2013, ran on a second-team All-American indoor distance medley relay in 2011 and was ACC Cross Country Freshman of the Year (2009).
Additionally, Bottorff achieved Academic All-American status in Women's Track and Cross Country in 2013 and 2014, while also being named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in cross country (2012) and track and field (2014).
