CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Eleven members of the Duke swimming and diving program recorded career-best times Friday on the first day of the Hokie Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech in Christiansburg, Va.
Sophomore
Aleyna Ozkan tallied a 53.52 in the 100 butterfly on Friday in the preliminaries, recording a career best and placing tied for ninth on the all-time chart. In addition, freshmen
Amaya Hanley and
Evan Greer also recorded career-best times in the 100 butterfly with times of 55.67 and 50.25, respectively.
Sophomore
Ashley Chompre set a career-best time in the 200 individual medley in the morning preliminaries, before topping that time in the evening finals with a 2:00.83.
Five Blue Devils notched career marks in the 50 freestyle. Senior
Colson Zucker recorded a time of 20.86 to lead the Duke men, followed by sophomore
Andrew O'Brien (21.17), freshman
Michael Volpe (21.34) and junior
Kevin Repice (21.82). On the women's side, junior
Alex Bumpas topped her best time with a time of 23.64 in the 50 freestyle.
Junior
Olivia Tighe's time of 4:56.38 in the 500 freestyle marked a career best in the morning preliminaries. Freshman
Jack Christian clocked 1:40.26 in the 200 freestyle for a career best.
Duke kicks off action in day two of the Hokie Invitational at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils are set to compete in the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
