RALEIGH – Senior
Quinn Riley fought off adverse weather conditions on Sunday at Lonnie Poole Golf Club in Raleigh to post a top-three finish at the Wolfpack Invitational.
Playing in his hometown, Riley posted his second top-10 finish in as many tournaments to lead four Blue Devils in the individual event that was hosted by NC State. Freshman
John Peters was tied for ninth, sophomore
Daniel Uranga was tied for 20th and graduate student
Qi wen Wong was tied for 23rd.
Riley opened with a 3-under 69 on Saturday and was tied for the individual lead through 18 holes. The senior played bogey-free on the back nine Saturday, with birdies on the par-5 15th and par-3 17th on his way to the 69.
Battling rain and chilly temperatures on Sunday, Riley caught fire near the turn with three consecutive birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes to turn in 1-under 35 and finished the round at 5-over 76. His 36-hole total of 1-over 145 was good for a tie for third.
Peters posted consecutive rounds of 2-over 74 to finish tied for ninth at 4-over 148, while Uranga was 8-over 152 (73, 79) to finish tied for 20th. Wong's even-par 72 on Sunday was the sixth-lowest round of day in the adverse conditions. He finished tied for 23rd at 9-over 153.
Wake Forest's Clay Stirsman won the title at 6-under 138.
