PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Jimmy Zheng and
Quinn Riley each carded rounds in the 60s on Monday to lead the Duke men's golf team in the second round of the Watersound Intercollegiate at the Shark's Tooth Golf Course in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Zheng carded a 4-under 68 and Riley a 3-under 69 for the Blue Devils, who shaved 13 strokes off Sunday's score for a 2-under 286. The team is 8-over 584 through 36 holes and in 13th place on the team leaderboard.
Zheng's sizzling 4-under 32 on the back nine Monday included an eagle on the par-5 13th hole and birdies on the 16th and 17th for his 68. He is tied for 18th on the individual leader board at 1-under 143 through 36 holes.
Riley also closed strong on Monday with a 3-under 33 on the back with birdies on the 10th, 16th and 17th. The senior from Raleigh is also among the group tied for 18th at the 1-under 143 heading to Tuesday's final round.
The individual lead is held by Alabama's Canon Claycomb, who is six strokes clear of the field at 11-under 133. Georgia Tech tops the team leaders at 14-under 562, also six strokes clear of the field. Virginia Tech (-8), Alabama (-4), North Carolina (-3), Clemson (-2) and Notre (-2) round out the top five.
Freshman
Luke Sample was also in red figures on Monday with a 1-under 71. He is 2-over for the tournament and in 38th place.
Sophomore
Ian Siebers is tied for 60th and freshman
Kelly Chinn is 70th.
Duke is paired with Louisville and Boston College for Tuesday's final round. The teams are off the 10th tee at 9:20 a.m. with live scoring available at golfstat.com.
