DURHAM – Duke women's soccer freshman
Michelle Cooper and fencing junior
Finn Hossfeld were selected PNC's Achievers of the Year for 2021-22.
In her debut season this past fall, Cooper put together perhaps the most decorated freshman campaign in Duke women's soccer history. The Clarkston, Mich., native scored 12 goals – a Blue Devil freshman record – and recorded 29 points to rank fifth in the ACC and fifth among all freshmen nationally. She was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth player in program history and first since 2012 to earn the honor. Cooper was additionally tapped a United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American, the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman of the Year and was one of 15 semifinalists – and the only freshman – for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Also an All-ACC Academic Team pick, Cooper is currently training with the U.S. Under-20 Women's Youth National Team and will compete at the Concacaf U-20 Championship beginning Feb. 25 in the Dominican Republic.
Hossfeld had a standout sophomore season for Duke as one of the team's leaders. He captured his first All-America accolade in men's foil, tying for third at the 2021 NCAA Championship. The Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., native also grabbed gold during the individual portion of the ACC Championship and went on to spearhead the men's ACC team title. Hossfeld was named ACC Fencer of the Year for his accomplishments. He also saw great success in the classroom and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. This past summer, Hossfeld participated in ACE in Place Thailand, an international service partnership Duke and Stanford.
Hossfeld saw success in his second appearance at the NCAA Championships, placing ninth to earn his second All-America honor. He also led the men's team with a 31-11 record.
