What is your favorite rowing memory?
SG: My favorite rowing memory is crossing the finish line to win nationals in the pair. All the time and hard work we had put into the boat had paid off in the form of our goal which happened to be a great outcome. It was the best feeling ever.
How did you get started in rowing?
SG: I began rowing in 8th grade because of a suggestion from my mom to "try a new sport," while still playing softball. I realized I had greater potential in this sport than softball and grew to like it better. I proceeded to give up softball and row instead. Fun fact, my first word was 'Row.'
Why did you choose to row for Duke?
SG: I chose to row for Duke because it is a program on the rise, showing its best results in rowing last year. I really enjoy the energy of a team collectively working to grow and to be the best it can be. The student-athlete support also greatly appealed to me along with the outstanding academics and student-body spirit.
What did you enjoy about Duke when you visited?
SG: I loved the Collegiate-Gothic style architecture of the Duke campus, and how much space and green there is. I appreciate how Durham is a developing city which is not too big but sizable.
