ATLANTA – Freshman diver
Margo O'Meara placed first in the one-meter diving competition on Tuesday to open the first day of the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatics Pavilion in Atlanta.
O'Meara, a native of St. Louis, Mo., took the top spot in the one-meter event with a score of 354.75 after placing second in the morning preliminaries. The four-time ACC Diver of the Week recorded the highest score in a one-meter final at the conference meet since Virginia Tech's Kalyea Arnett scored a 355.60 in 2014.
She becomes the first individual champion for Duke since
Leah Goldman took gold in the 200 individual medley in 2018. O'Meara is the fourth Duke women's diver to win an individual ACC title in program history and is the first to win the one-meter competition since Olympian
Abby Johnston won the event in 2011.
Juniors
Ali Watson and
Kate Mullin also placed in the top-16 at the conference meet. Watson finished 11th with a score of 254.05 while Mullin placed 15th with a score of 235.35.

McKenna Smith placed fifth in the event while recording a school-record time of 7:05.32.
Duke closed the night with men's three-meter diving. Sophomore
Seamus Harding Jr. placed eighth in the event with a score of 305.45.
The Blue Devils continue action at the ACC Championships tomorrow with the first full day of the championships. On the slate for Wednesday is the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and men's one-meter diving.
