DURHAM — The Duke men's lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the ACC in a vote of the league's five head coaches the league announced Tuesday in its 2022 ACC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Blue Devils also landed three players on the 15-player preseason All-ACC team.

Tyler Carpenter were Duke's representatives on the preseason All-ACC squad. Notre Dame led the way with four selections to the team with Duke and Syracuse having three honorees.
Virginia was voted to win the ACC title in 2022 with 23 points. The Blue Devils came in second with 17 points, while Notre Dame (16), North Carolina (12) and Syracuse (7) complete the list.
Duke, tabbed the No. 3 team in all three of the preseason national polls, shared the 2021 title with North Carolina, going 4-2 in league action last year. The Blue Devils return a wealth of talent and welcome 15 newcomers to the program, including five transfer athletes and 10 freshmen.
Montgomery and Carpenter both were voted to the USILA preseason All-America squads, while Brower joined the duo with an honorable mention nod on the
Inside Lacrosse preseason All-America teams.
Montgomery, a USILA first-team All-American in 2021, returns for his final season as a Blue Devil in 2022 with 58 goals and 48 assists to his name. A USILA All-America third team pick as a sophomore, Carpenter looks to build on his breakout season. He collected 72 ground balls and led the squad in caused turnovers with 23 takeaways. Carpenter also added two goals and an assist on offense.
Brower, selected as one of four team captains this season, will be the leader of the defensive unit in 2022. A starter in all 17 games last season, the Massapequa, N.Y., native was third on the team with 11 caused turnovers and ranked fifth among non-faceoff players in ground balls with 21. Drawing the opponent's top attackman on occasions, Brower had at least one ground ball in 13 games and registered five caused turnovers in the three NCAA Tournament games last season.
Overall, the Blue Devils feature a depth of talent all over the field and return five of their top six scorers and two of the three starting close defensemen, including Brower and goaltender
Mike Adler.
Sophomore
Brennan O'Neill is the top returning scorer after posting 45 goals and 10 assists in his rookie season. Graduate student captain,
Joe Robertson, returns as the veteran attackman after registering 36 goals and 54 points overall last season to push his career total to 173. Duke also will benefit from the transfer of
Sean Lulley from Penn. He started 31 games during his time with the Quakers, scoring 39 goals and dishing 39 assists.

Cameron Badour returns to the field as well after missing much of last season to injury, while
Owen Caputo looks to build on solid sophomore and junior campaigns.

Frank Marinello will bolster the defense after he returned to the field in 2021 and started nine of the 12 games he played.
Duke opens the 2022 season this weekend, hosting Robert Morris, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils welcome Vermont to Durham Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. Duke hosts six games overall in February and has 10 home contests overall.
