DURHAM – The Duke track & field and cross country team held its annual awards banquet Sunday to honor the achievements from the 2021-22 track & field season, in addition to the recently completed 2022 cross country season. Director of track & field and cross country
Shawn Wilbourn, along with other members of the coaching staff, presented 12 awards to 11 student-athletes for their respective accomplishments during the 2022 indoor and outdoor season.

Erin Marsh – Curtis Beach Performer of the Year & Women's Field Athlete of the Year
- Totaled 5,929 points to place third in the heptathlon and earn USTFCCCA All-America First Team honors at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish of her career at the national meet.
- Broke own school record and became first Blue Devil woman to win heptathlon title after notching 5,946 points at the ACC Championships.
- Garnered USTFCCCA All-America First Team honors and finished runner-up in the pentathlon at the NCAA Championships with a personal best and school record of 4383 points.
- Earned three medals – two gold, one silver, and collected All-ACC First Team honors in the 60m hurdles (8.17), 4x400m relay (3:35.08) and long jump (6.32m (20-9 feet) at the ACC Championships; Became the first Duke women's track athlete ever to win an ACC Championship in the hurdles.
- Won the pentathlon at the Hokie Invitational for the second straight year, taking first in the event with 4,172 points.
Nick Dahl – Men's Track Athlete of the Year
- Earned USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention honors via a 1500m time of 3:48.14 at the NCAA Championships
- Collected the bronze medal and All-ACC First Team honors in the 1500m (3:43.07) at the ACC Championships
- Earned USTFCCCA All-America First Team honors after placing sixth in the mile (4:07.78) at the NCAA Championships
- Won gold at the ACC Championships and earned All-ACC First Team honors in the mile after clocking 4:04.72; Became first Duke men's indoor champion in the mile since Bob Wheeler in 1973
- Set school record in the mile at the Music City Challenge, running 3:55.89.
- Set school record in the 3000m (7:59.84) at the Hokie Invite.
Erick Duffy – Men's Field Athlete of the Year
- Earned USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention honors at the NCAA Championships with a height of 5.30m (17-4.5 feet).
- Set the school record, earned All-ACC First Team honors and became the first Duke men's outdoor pole vault ACC Champion since Clint Brown (1967) after clearing a personal best of 5.43m (17-9.75 feet) at the ACC Championships.
- Earned All-ACC First Team honors with a runner-up finish of 5.26m (17-3 feet) at the ACC Championships.
Michael Fairbanks – Men's Hell Raiser Award
- Cleared 4.89m (16-0.5 feet) at the NCAA East Regional.
- Earned All-ACC Second Team honors following a fourth-place finish of 5.13m (16-10 feet) at the ACC Championships.
- Notched a mark of 5.25m (17-2.75) feet), No. 3 in Duke history, to earn third place at the Duke Invite.
- Earned the gold medal, All-ACC First Team honors and became the first Duke men's ACC indoor pole vault champion since Mike Shankle's 1978 title after clearing 5.26m (17-3 feet).
Lauren Hoffman – Women's Track Athlete of the Year
- Earned the bronze medal and USTFCCCA All-America First Team honors, the highest of her career, in the 400m hurdles (55.47) at NCAA Outdoor Championships.
- Broke own school record 400m hurdle for the fourth time of the season with a run of 55.47 in the prelims.
- Also earned USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention status as a member of the 4x400m relay (3:36.40)
- Collected gold medals and All-ACC First Team honors in the 400m hurdles (56:00) and 4x400m (3:33.88) at the ACC Championships
- Earned All-ACC First Team honors as the anchor of the winning 4x400m relay (3:35.08) that captured the gold medal and gave Duke a share of the 2022 Women's Indoor ACC Championship.
Amina Maatoug - Women's Cross Country MVP
- Became the 12th Duke woman all-time, and first since Juliet Bottorff did so in 2013, to be tabbed a USTFCCCA All-American.
- Culminated an outstanding inaugural cross country season at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on with a 28th-place finish of 20:04.6.
- Finished sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships via a finish of 20:11.5 to earn All-Southeast Region honors and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
- Collected All-ACC honors, posted the highest finish by a Blue Devil runner since 2020 and picked up her third top-five finish of the season, notching a sub-20 minute 6K time of 19:41.8 to finish fourth among the field at the ACC Championships.
- Ran her 6K in 20:20.3 to place 28th at the Nuttycombe Invitational
- Posted the top overall finish for the Blue Devils, men or women, at the Paul Short Run, clocking 19:34.6 to finish second among the 416-member women's 6K field.
- Commanded the women's 5K field from start to finish en route to winning the Virginia Invitational women's race with a time of 16:57.3 – 13 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Miles Mingo – Men's Most Improved Senior
- Ran 400m personal best (46.40) at the NCAA East Regional, No. 2 in Duke history.
- Competed as a member of the 4x100m relay (40.05) that set the school record at the ACC Championships.
- Ran 200m personal best (20.77) to place fourth at the Virginia Challenge, tied for first in Duke history.
- Took first as a member of the 4x400m at the High Point Meet of Champions with a time of 3:10.12, No. 3 in Duke history.
- Set the school record as a member of the 4x200m (1:25.03) and 4x400m (3:09.01) relay teams at the Texas Relays.
- Earned All-ACC Second Team honors following a fourth-place finish of 3:14.00 in the 4x400m at the ACC Championships.
Michaela Reinhart – Women's Most Improved Senior
- Earned USTFCCCA All-America honors in the 10,000m after running her race in 34:52.50 at the NCAA Championships.
- Earned All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Second Team honors, respectively, in the 10,000m and 5000m events at the ACC Championships; Finished runner-up with the fourth-fastest program time in the 10,000m (33:22.99) and fourth in the 5000m (15:54.87).
- Ran 5000m personable best (15:53.08) at the Virginia Challenge, No. 2 in Duke history.
- Earned All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Second Team honors, respectively, in the indoor 5000m and 3000m races behind personal-best performances in each event.
- Ran 5000m in 15:55.24 and clocked 9:04.95c in the 3000m at the conference meet; the marks rank No. 3 and No. 2 all-time at Duke.
- Finished runner-up in the 5000m (16:00.31) at the Music City Challenge.
Brianna Smith – Community Service Award
- Qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the high jump and cleared a height of 1.71m (5-7.25 feet).
- Placed fifth and earned All-ACC Second Team honors in the high jump at the ACC Championships after jumping 1.76m (5-9.25 feet).
- Matched her personal best of 5,211 points in the heptathlon at the ACC Championships, including a high jump personal best of 1.78m (5-10 feet), tied for fourth in Duke history.
- Recorded long jump personal best of 5.90m (19-4.25 feet) at the Virginia Challenge.
- Finished third overall in the heptathlon at the Duke Invite with a personal best of 5,211 points.
- Won both regular season high jump events she competed in, placing first at the High Point Meet of Champions and Texas Relays.
- Won the gold medal in the high jump at the ACC Indoor Championships on a clearance of 1.81m (5-11.25 feet), No. 3 in Duke history.
Chris Theodore – Men's Cross Country MVP
- Team Captain
- Ran his 10K in 30:27.2 (35th) and helped lead the Blue Devil men to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional – the highest since 2015.
- Posted the highest placement of the Duke men at the ACC Championships, clocking 23:32.1 to place 28th.
- Placed 57th (23:48.8) amid a loaded men's 8K race at the Nuttycombe Invitational and helped the Duke men beat four ranked teams.
- Finished in the top 20 at the Paul Short Run, finishing his 8K with a PR of 23:25.2.
- Took eighth at the Virginia Invitation, clocking a 6K personal best of 17:53.4.
