DURHAM – The Duke track and field team gets its 2023 indoor season going this weekend as the Blue Devils prepare to take part in the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the JDL Fast Track.
MEET INFORMATION
- The field events get going for Duke at 9:30 a.m., with the women's shot put, followed by the men's pole vault and men's and women's long jump – all set for a 10 a.m., start.
- In the afternoon session, Duke will also feature entries in the men's weight throw (12 p.m.), women's high jump (12:30 p.m.), women's pole vault (1 p.m.), men's triple jump (1:30 p.m.) and women's weight throw (2:30 p.m.).
- The 3:30 p.m., men's high jump wraps up the Blue Devil field events.
- On the track, the Blue Devils open with the preliminaries of the women's (10:50 a.m.) and men's (11 a.m.) 60-meter hurdles.
- Duke will also have athletes competing across the 60m dash (W – 10:50 a.m./M – 11 a.m.), 400m (W – 12:10 p.m./M – 12:35 p.m.) and 600m races (W – 1:25 p.m./M – 1:40 p.m.) before closing out the afternoon in the women's 4x400m relay scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW
- Shawn Wilbourn enters his third season as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.
- Duke looks to build on an incredible 2021-22 season that saw the men's and women's team combine to shatter 10 program records, set 46 top-five program marks and qualify a school-record 17 individuals to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
- A total of 43 student-athletes, 30 women and 13 men, will represent Duke at the season-opening meet on Saturday, including 18 set to make their respective Blue Devil debuts.
- Several key performers from a season ago open their season this weekend, including USTFCCCA All-Americans Halle Bieber, Abby Geiser, Megan McGinnis and Isabel Wakefield along with NCAA East Regional qualifiers Beau Allen, Brynn King and Brianna Smith.
MAATOUG ALSO IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND
- Fresh off a phenomenal inaugural Duke cross country season that culminated in a sixth-place finish and USTFCCCA All-America honors, sophomore Amina Maatoug looks to carry that momentum into her first track and field season.
- Maatoug will be the lone Blue Devil representative at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener this weekend in Boston, Mass., hosted by Boston University.
- The Leiden, Netherlands product will compete amid a loaded 3,000m field on Saturday at 2:13 p.m., as she looks to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
