DURHAM – Former Blue Devils Justin Guterding and Brad Smith will suit up for the Premier Lacrosse League powered by Ticketmaster for the 2023 Championship Series. Four teams – Archers, Atlas, Chrome and Whipsnakes – will battle for the crown.
Each club will play three round-robin games from Feb. 22-24 to determine the seeding for the semifinals Saturday. The title game will be Feb. 26. All the games will be played at The St. James in Springfield, Va.
Smith, recently voted 19th in the Players Top 50 list, registered 25 points last season with 14 goals, including one two-pointer, and eight assists. He was voted to the PLL All-Star team and has 70 career points in 30 games.
A two-time PLL All-Star, Guterding played in seven games last season and had 16 points from six goals and 10 assists. After one season in MLL, Guterding joined the PLL with Chrome in 2019. He has played in 44 career games as a professional and has 117 points from 69 goals, including a pair of two-pointers, and 46 assists.
Games will be played in the fast-paced Olympics format, including four 8-minute quarters on a 70-by-36-meter field. There will be a 30-second shot clock for each team's possession. Instead of taking faceoffs after goals are scored, goalies will restart play immediately with a clear. The 2023 Championship Series will also feature a 13-yard 2-point arc.
