Hamill was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year following a historic season between the posts for the Blue Devils in 2022. His 11 clean sheets are tied for the second-most in program history for shutouts in a regular season and is fourth-best in program history overall. The Scarsdale, N.Y., native led the country during the regular season in total shutouts (11), save percentage (.900) and goals against average (.333). Hamill elected to return to the team as a graduate student after earning three ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2021 and ended the regular season with six consecutive shutouts en route to helping Duke to its first top overall seed in the ACC Tournament since 2006. Â
Mohammed is the fifth Blue Devil in program history to be named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and is the second in as many years, after
Thorleifur Ulfarsson earned the recognition last season. Mohammed, a native of Kumasi, Ghana, helped lead the Blue Devils to an undefeated regular season with nine goals and a total of 20 points. His five game-winning goals is best in the ACC and is currently tied for third in the country. The sophomore moved from 60th in TopDrawerSoccer's preseason Top 100 to 11th in the midseason iteration, was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and earned multiple National Team of the Week selections. Mohammed had three multiple-goal games in 2022, including back-to-back braces against Notre Dame and George Washington.
Stroud becomes the first player in ACC history to win back-to-back Midfielder of the Year awards after yet another impressive season for the Blue Devils. The junior was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list in the preseason alongside being named the top player in the country in TopDrawerSoccer's preseason and midseason Top 100. The Chester, N.J., native tallied five assists in 2022, his career-high for assists in the regular season. He played all but four of the available 720 minutes in conference play and recorded his 50th career start, out of 51 total appearances, in Duke's match against Pittsburgh this year.
Acito was a steady presence in Duke's stellar defensive efforts throughout the season. The freshman trails only
Aedan Stanley in program history for percentage of minutes played by a freshman defender (98.4%) and finished the season having played 1,079 of 1,080 available minutes in the final 11 matches of the regular season. The Manhattan, N.Y., native is the second consecutive Blue Devil to win Freshman of the Year following Mohammed's recognition in 2021 and is the third Blue Devil in the last five years (
Issa Rayyan, 2018). Duke is the first ACC team to have back-to-back Freshman of the Year players since North Carolina in 2011 and 2012 (Mikey Lopez, Danny Garcia)
Duke has three players on the First Team for the first time since 2010 and with its six All-ACC selections, the Blue Devils now have 172 All-ACC honors in program history. The three All-Freshman selections moves Duke to 33 all-time, only trailing Wake Forest (34).
The Blue Devils turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament next, with the selection show scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 on ncaa.com
