DURHAM – Duke director of track & field and cross country
Shawn Wilbourn announced the track & field schedule ahead of the 2022-23 campaign, with the Blue Devils competing at 17 meets across the indoor and outdoor regular seasons.
"Our staff and student-athletes are very excited about the 2023 indoor and outdoor competition schedule," said Wilbourn. "For the first time since before the pandemic, we travel to California for the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational, and we will also return to the Penn Relays for the first time in three years. Those premier outdoor meets, along with traveling to Penn State, Vanderbilt and the Tyson Invitational during the indoor season, will give our teams the opportunity to compete against the best competition in the country and at some of the finest track & field meets in the United States."
The indoor slate sees the Blue Devils travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for four meets, beginning with the JDL Early Bird Invitational (Dec. 3) to open the season. After the new year, Duke returns to Winston-Salem on Jan. 14 for the JDL Mondo College Invitational, then heads to Blacksburg, Va., to take part in the Hokie Invitational Jan. 20-21. The Blue Devils close January with a trip to the Keystone State for the Penn State National Jan. 27-28.
Following the JDL Camel City Invitational (Feb. 4-5) to open the month, the Blue Devils split the roster as the squad competes across two meets in back-to-back weeks. Duke takes part in the Tyson Invitational (Fayetteville, Ark.) and Music City Challenge (Nashville, Tenn.) Feb. 10-11, prior to closing out the indoor regular season at the Virginia Tech Challenge and JDL DMR Invitational Feb. 17-18.
The ACC Indoor Championships are slated for Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky., while the NCAA Indoor Championships take place in Albuquerque, N.M., March 10-11.
Duke unwraps the outdoor season in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational March 16-18. The Blue Devils are back in North Carolina for their next three meets, starting with the Raleigh Relays from March 23-25. After the VertKlasse Meeting (March 31-April 1) in High Point, N.C., Duke returns to Morris Williams Stadium to host the Duke Invitational April 6-8.
Next, the Blue Devils head to the west coast for a pair of meets – the team will once again split into two groups, with several individuals competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 12-14) in Azusa, Calif., while others take part in the Mt. SAC Relays (April 12-15) in Walnut, Calif. Duke heads back to Winston-Salem for the Wake Forest Invitational April 21-22, before snapping a three-year hiatus with a return to the Penn Relays set for April 27-29 in Philadelphia, Pa.
For the second time in three seasons, the ACC Outdoor Championships will be held up the road in Raleigh May 11-13. The outdoor season concludes with the NCAA East Regional from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla., followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
