DURHAM – Duke women's lacrosse celebrated the 2022 season and hosted its end of year banquet Saturday night in the Champions Club at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
While celebrating the success of the 2022 season, Duke gave out a number of individual awards. The awards given out were the (Kristen B.) Lonergan-(Stefanie A.) Sparks Leadership Award, the Erin B. Miller Coaches Award, the Claire C. Sullivan Blue Collar Award, the Karen M. Sutton Workhorse Award, the Kendra L. Basner Founders Award, Most Improved, the Kathleen E. Chrest MVP Attacker, Kathleen M. Kaiser MVP Midfielder, (Sandra D.) Johnston-(Meghan P.) McLaughlin MVP Defender and Rookie of the Year.
Duke enjoyed a plethora of success in its 2022 season. Head coach
Kerstin Kimel's squad made its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and its second consecutive. The Blue Devils finished the year 13th in the nation by the IWLCA and reached as high as No. 5 during the season.
Catriona Barry and
Maddie Jenner were selected Tewaaraton Award nominees while Barry, Jenner,
Cubby Biscardi and
Olivia Carner were selected IWLCA All-Americans. Barry paced the Blue Devils with a whopping 93 points, which rank third in program history while
Katie DeSimone's 60 goals are fifth in Duke records.
Jenner once again proved she is the draw control queen and set the NCAA single-season record (233) and the Duke season record. Barry, Biscardi, Carner, DeSimone and Jenner were named All-ACC while
Reilly Traynor was named to the All-Freshman team.
Anna Callahan and
Alexis Joseph earned the ACC Top Six for Service Award while Joseph was also named a Heidrick Family Leadership Post Graduate Scholarship winner. Barry, Biscardi, Carner, DeSimone, Jenner,
Maddie Johnston,
Sophia LeRose and Traynor were named to the All-ACC Academic Team for their successes in the classroom.
