Duke Sweeps Georgetown Intercollegiate, Siebers Finishes as Co-Medalist

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Duke men's golf swept the Georgetown Intercollegiate on Tuesday, securing its first team title of the 2022-23 season at Liberty National Golf Club, while Ian Siebers medaled for the first time in his career. The Blue Devils ended the tournament nine shots ahead of second place with a team score of 864 (E), and Siebers was co-medalist at 5-under 211.

- Playing in the final five groups to go off the first tee, the Blue Devils battled through a tough start to their final round. Duke found its footing and scored four birdies in the final four holes to draw within striking distance of the leaders.
- A surge as the team began play on the back nine moved the Blue Devils into first place, a status they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the tournament.
- Ian Siebers made the turn after a steady front nine 36 and promptly got into red figures with a short eagle putt on the par-5 10th hole. The Bellevue, Wash., native continued his consistent round and sat just one shot off the lead with three holes to play. The junior rolled home a birdie putt on the 17th hole and finessed a two-putt from 40 feet to help him finish as co-medalist at 5-under 211.
- After a front nine 39, Luke Sample poured in five birdies on the back nine, including three in a row on holes 16-18 to finish with a 2-under 70. The strong closing effort helped Sample match Siebers as the final round's low Blue Devil and moved the sophomore into a tie for 11th place overall at 2-over 218.
- Ethan Evans equaled Sample's birdie production with five in the final round en route to finishing Tuesday at even-par 72 and in 17th-place with a 54-hole score of 221 (+5).
- Also for Duke, John Peters shot a final-round 73 (+1), finishing in a tie for 34th at 10-over 226 and Kelly Chinn wrapped up his tournament with 76 (+4) to finish just outside the top-10 in a tie for 13th at 3-over 219.
- The team title is the 26th under head coach Jamie Green, and the first team title since the Stitch Intercollegiate in March of 2022.
- The Blue Devils also swept the Stitch Intercollegiate with Quinn Riley claiming medalist honors in March.
- Ian Siebers secured his first medalist honor during his time in Durham, finishing as co-medalist. The junior was awarded the first-place trophy after a tiebreaker.
- Siebers eagled the par-5 10th hole in the first and third round, the first time in his career that he's had two eagles in one tournament.
- As a team, Duke was best in scoring average on par-4's and par-5's. The Blue Devils shot a blistering 21-under on the par-5's throughout the weekend.
- The Blue Devils led the tournament with five eagles and tied for the most birdies throughout the event with 49.
- Duke returns to the course when it travels to Alpharetta, Ga., in 10 days for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The three-day event will start on Friday, Oct. 21 and run through Sunday, Oct. 23.
