DURHAM – Duke University men's lacrosse head coach
John Danowski has announced the addition of
Alex Concannon to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 season. Concannon will assist in all areas of the program.
"I'm grateful to be joining the Duke lacrosse family this spring," said Concannon. "I'm eager to get started with these young men and do my part to help this team in any way possible. It was any easy decision to join the Duke men's lacrosse staff as they have one goal in mind, to be champions at the end of Memorial Day weekend."
Concannon, a native of Syosset, N.Y., comes to Durham after a four-year career at Johns Hopkins University and one season at Hofstra. An attackman, Concannon battled injuries throughout his career with the Blue Jays, but always worked his way back and eventually earned a starting spot.
After suffering a season-ending injury after just one game as a freshman, he returned his sophomore campaign to play 14 games, scoring three goals and handing out nine assists. As a junior, Concannon played 16 contests and started five of those en route to 10 goals and eight assists.
In 2019, Concannon had the best year of his career, starting all 16 games on attack and totaling 18 goals and eight assists for 26 points. He was lethal on extra man offense for the Blue Jays, throwing in six man-up goals. Injuries struck again in 2020, ending his final campaign at Johns Hopkins after just one game.
Concannon graduated from Johns Hopkins in the spring of 2020 with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
After the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Concannon transferred to Hofstra for his final year of eligibility and to pursue a master's degree. While with the Pride, the 5-6 attackman
returned from his previous injury at Johns Hopkins to start five of eight games and score 15 goals and 23 points overall.
He graduated from Hofstra this past May with a Master of Science degree in environmental sustainability.
Overall, for his collegiate career, Concannon played in 56 games, starting 27, and scored 46 goals and 33 assists for 79 points.
The Blue Devils open practice Jan. 10 with the 2022 regular season set to start the first weekend of February.
