DURHAM – Five members of the Duke field hockey squad garnered recognition for their work in the classroom and on the field, earning spots on the 2021 All-ACC Field Hockey Academic Team the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Logan Clouser,
Leah Crouse,
Lexi Davidson,
Hannah Miller and
MaryKate Neff all garnered recognition for their excellence in both areas. It is the first award for Clouser and Neff, while Crouse, Davidson and Miller capture their second awards.
One of four freshmen selected to the All-ACC Academic Team, Clouser came on strong midway through the year to finish tied as the team's top scorer. The native of Bethlehem, Pa., finished her rookie campaign with five goals and three assists for 13 points. She scored at least one point in seven of the season's final nine games after not scoring in the first eight contests.
Neff, a graduate student transfer for the Blue Devils, started every game for the Blue Devils in the midfield. A tireless worker and fearless player, Neff was instrumental on Duke's offense and penalty corner, scoring four goals and adding five assists. An NFHCA All-South Region second team pick, Neff notched the game winners for Duke at James Madison and Boston University.
A team captain, Crouse was the centerpiece for the Blue Devils in the middle of the field. She finished her final season in Durham with three goals and two assists in 15 games. She also garnered her first NFHCA All-South Region award, landing on the second team.
A graduate student, Davidson was both an anchor for Duke's backline and the offensive penalty corner group. A stellar penalty stroke shooter and Duke's stopper on penalty corners, Davidson finished the season with three goals and five assists. She also helped the Blue Devils post two shutouts.
Miller, a junior forward, started all 17 games for the Blue Devils. She finished with four goals and two assists on 23 shots. A talented wing player for Duke, Miller has started every game in her career and earned All-South Region second team recognition in 2019.
