DURHAM -Â With 328 passing yards and four rushing touchdowns, Duke quarterback Gunnar Holmberg accomplished a rare feat in the Blue Devils' win over Kansas this past Saturday, becoming just the fifth player nationally over the past 15 seasons to throw for 300-plus yards while running for four-plus scores in a single game against a Power 5 opponent.
Â
The other four individuals to achieve the feat include Florida's Tim Tebow (vs. South Carolina, 2007), Kansas State's Collin Klein (vs. West Virginia, 2012), Louisville's Lamar Jackson (vs. Syracuse, 2016) and Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald (vs. Arkansas, 2016).
Â
Holmberg's four touchdowns on the ground equaled the school single-game record most recently achieved by Brandon Connette against Miami in 2013.
Â
"I thought Gunnar played his best game," said Duke head coach David Cutcliffefollowing the win over Kansas. "I thought his decision-making, play-making and accuracy on downfield throws was outstanding."
Â
On the season, Holmberg has completed 93-of-129 (.721) passes for 1,140 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing 42 times for 159 yards and six touchdowns.
Â
Duke stands at 3-1 on the year and opens ACC action on Saturday at North Carolina. Kickoff at Kenan Memorial Stadium is set for 12 noon and the game will be televised by ESPN2.
