DURHAM – Head Coach
Megan Cooke Carcagno and the Duke rowing program are pleased to announce the hire of
Emilie Gross as the team's director of operations.
"Emilie brings a wealth of knowledge that is impossible to match when it comes to how to operate a Division-I varsity team," Cooke Carcagno said. "She knows how to be useful, and what is required for us to function at the most optimal level. She works hard and knows her stuff. With her vast coaching knowledge, humble personality, and friendly way of joining in, she's going to make Duke better in every single way."
In her role, Gross will help manage logistics for team travel and practices at Lake Michie, while also supporting the Blue Devils with fueling and nutritional needs. She will additionally have direct involvement in organizing team events and facilitating all aspects of recruiting.
Gross comes to Duke after spending the past four seasons in multiple roles with the University of North Carolina rowing program. She joined the Tar Heels' staff in August of 2017 as an assistant coach, before taking over as an interim co-head coach in December of 2019. Prior to her stint in Chapel Hill, she served as an assistant coach at the University of Dayton for two seasons and was previously a junior novice coach, master's assistant coach and boathouse keeper at Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, Pa.
A 2011 graduate from Michigan State, Gross was an Academic All-Big Ten selection as a coxswain with the Spartans' rowing team. She helped MSU win back-to-back conference titles in 2008 and 2009 and post a pair of top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships.
