No. 2 Blue Devils Set to Open Season at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

DURHAM – The nation's top women's golf programs will head to Lake Elmo, Minn., this weekend to open the 2021-22 campaign at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, which will take place Sept. 13-15 at the 6,410-yard, par-72 Royal Golf Club. Led by Blue Devil head coach Dan Brooks in his 38th season, second-ranked Duke will join 11 other teams in the annual event.
Along with Duke, Wake Forest (3), LSU (4), Ole Miss (6), Arizona State (8), Texas (9), South Carolina (10), Southern California (11), Arizona (13), UCLA (16), Alabama and Minnesota will compete. The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) preseason rankings are included in parentheses.
The Blue Devils will travel a squad to Minnesota that includes senior Gina Kim, junior Erica Shepherd, sophomore Phoebe Brinker, sophomore Anne Chen and freshman Rylie Heflin.
Duke last competed in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in 2019 with Kim placing tied for 11th with rounds of 73, 70 and 72 for a 1-under, 215. Shepherd carded a 44th place ledger in her collegiate debut. Both Kim and Shepherd recently received Golfweek Preseason All-America accolades heading into the season.
The Blue Devils have been preseason ranked No. 2 (WGCA) and No. 4 (Golf Channel, Golfweek) nationally and are coming off a semifinal appearance at the NCAA Championship a year ago.
Teams will play 18 holes each day with tee times from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
