TOKYO – For the third consecutive Olympic Games, a Duke track & field alum has finished fourth in an event, as current volunteer assistant coach
Maddy Price and the Canada 4x400m relay placed fourth on Saturday.
Â
Canada missed out on the podium in a tight finish, clocking in at 3:21.24, smashing their season best but finishing 0.60 seconds behind Jamaica for the final medal. Price ran the second leg after running the third leg in the opening heat, which proved to be the fastest on her team, running a blistering time of 49.95 seconds.
Â
The United States took home the gold medal, followed by Poland and Jamaica for the silver and bronze medals. Canada's finish tied for its second best in the country's history in the event, with the nation last winning a medal in the women's 4x400m relay at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
Â
Price matches fellow Duke alumna
Shannon Rowbury for the best finish by a Duke woman at the Olympic Games, after Rowbury placed fourth in the 1500m in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and fourth in the same event at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Â
Price and Canada's finish concludes the Blue Devils run at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, that featured the program's largest contingent in school history.
