DURHAM, N.C. – For just the sixth time in Duke fencing history, a Blue Devil has received Academic All-America recognition as rising junior
Finn Hossfeld was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as announced Friday.
Hossfeld joins third team standouts
Pascual Di Tella (2018),
Dorian Cohen (2011) and
Peter Truszkowski (2009), second team honoree
Eoin Gronningsater (2020) and three-time NCAA Champion
Becca Ward, who received first team accolades in 2012.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
Hossfeld had a standout sophomore season for Duke as he captured his first All-America accolade as he finished tied for third at the NCAA Championship. The Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., native also grabbed gold during the individual portion of the ACC Championship and went on to spearhead the men's ACC team title. Hossfeld was named ACC Fencer of the Year for foil and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for his successes in the classroom.
