NORTH WALES – The Duke tandem of
Gina Kim and Sarah LeBrun Ingram are set to represent the United States at the 41st Curtis Cup, which will take place Aug. 26-28 at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales.
The Curtis Cup Match is a biennial international women's amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I). It consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. The USGA's International Team Selection (ITS) Working Group selects the USA Team, while The R&A selects the GB&I Team.
Kim will team with Brooke Matthews in the morning foursomes on Thursday as the U.S. duo will go up against GB&I's Caley McGinty and Emily Toy.
Ingram, the captain for the United States squad, is a 1988 Duke graduate and a three-time Curtis Cup selection in 1992, 1994 and 1996.
A native of Durham, N.C., Kim is coming off winning the 2021 Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur, Stage I of LPGA Qualifying School and helping the U.S. to a win at the Arnold Palmer cup this summer. She has moved up to No. 17 in the Women's Amateur Golf Ranking. As a junior with the Blue Devils, Kim won the ACC Individual Championship and earned First Team All-America accolades. She helped lead Duke to the 2021 ACC Championship and the 2019 NCAA Championship. Kim is a two-time semifinalist in USGA events – 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior and 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball. Kim was the low amateur at the 2019 U.S. Women's Open as she set the 18-hole scoring record for an amateur with a 66.
Kim joins a long list of former Duke women's golf standouts that have represented the United States at the Curtis Cup – Hannah O'Sullivan (2016), Lindy Duncan (2012), Jennie Lee (2008, 2006), Amanda Blumenherst (2008, 2006), Brittany Lang (2004), Liz Janangelo (2004), Leigh Anne Hardin (2002), Beth Bauer (2000, 1998), Jenny Chuasiriporn (1998), Ingram (1996, 1994, 1992), Stephanie Sparks (1994) and Mary Anne Widman (1984). Duke has also featured Leona Maguire (2016, 2014, 2012, 2010) and Lisa Maguire (2010) that have represented Great Britain & Ireland.
Since 1992, the Blue Devils have had at least one representative in the Curtis Cup, and in 14 of the 15 times it has been contested.
