DURHAM – Duke men's lacrosse incoming freshman
Andrew McAdorey was named the the USA Lacrosse National Player of the Year in boys' lacrosse, USA Lacrosse announced Thursday. McAdorey will arrive on Duke's campus in August.
A midfielder, McAdorey recently completed his senior season for St. Anthony's, leading the Friars to an 11-1 overall record and a No.1 national ranking. The Friars split games with rival Chaminade (N.Y.) before winning the rubbermatch in the CHSAA Class AAA championship.The Long Island native finished the season with 21 goals and 27 assists and while those numbers aren't out of this world, his impact is felt all over the field.
"Andrew is not a stats-driven kid, which for a superstar is odd," St. Anthony's head coach Keith Wieczorek said.
McAdorey will join former St. Anthony's teammates
Brennan O'Neill and
Jake Naso, who both earned All-America recognition in their rookie campaigns with the Blue Devils.
In the spring of 2019, he racked up 26 goals and 21 assists, while sharing the ball on offense with four of the nation's top recruits at the time, including O'Neill. The nation's top-ranked incoming freshman according to
Inside Lacrosse, McAdorey plays his club lacrosse for Team 91 Crush.
The Blue Devils finished this past season with a 14-3 overall record, winning a share of the ACC title and advancing to Championship Weekend for the third consecutive season.
