DURHAM – Following a unique 2020-21 campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic, head coach
Pam Bustin and the Duke field hockey team are excited to reveal the 2021 schedule.
The 2021 slate consists of 16 regular season games, featuring eight home games at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, including hosting the B1G/ACC Cup. Eleven of Duke's 16 opponents ranked in the top 20 of the final 2020-21 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
Duke Athletics venues will be at full capacity during the upcoming academic year. Game day operational policies could be altered should state, local or campus regulations related to capacity, distancing and making change prior to the start of the season. Duke University encourages all fans to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine prior to attending events on campus.
Prior to the start of the season, Duke will scrimmage at Old Dominion on Wednesday, Aug. 18, and at North Carolina on Saturday, Aug. 21.
The Blue Devils open their fall campaign at home against Rutgers on Friday, Aug. 27. A neutral site game between Rutgers and Richmond will take place on Saturday, Aug. 28, before Duke closes out the weekend versus the Spiders on Sunday, Aug. 29.
Duke hosts the B1G/ACC Cup the following weekend, playing Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 3, and Maryland on Sunday, Sept. 5. Boston College will be the other ACC program participating. The following weekend, Duke travels to New Jersey for a non-conference matchup at Princeton Saturday, Sept. 11.
Bustin's squad begins ACC play Friday, Sept. 17, as the Blue Devils welcome Wake Forest to Durham. After a travel day, Duke will play James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., on Sunday, Sept. 19. Duke faces Louisville on Friday, Sept. 24, and will play at another Colonial Athletic Association opponent in William & Mary on Sunday, Sept. 26, which begins its four-game road swing.
Duke will make stops at Virginia on Friday, Oct. 1 and close out the weekend at Liberty on Sunday, Oct. 3. The Blue Devils face Tobacco Road rival North Carolina at Karen Shelton Stadium on Friday, Oct. 8, before hosting Old Dominion on Sunday, Oct. 10.
The program will honor its seniors in the home finale against Syracuse on Saturday, Oct. 16. Duke will close out its season on the road up north at Boston College on Friday, Oct. 22, and Boston University Sunday, Oct. 24.
The 2021 ACC Championship will be held at J.S. Coyne Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y., Nov. 3-7.
